LECTURES ON MATERIA MEDICA

Silicea and Cina are notified as children's remedies. I do not agree with this except as an attempt to simplify the task of a beginner in Homeopathic practice; for both these remedies I have had occasion to use in adult and geriatric practice.

SILICEA     Polycrest.            Mineral source; Psoric,Syphilitic,Tubercular,Sycotic.      Prover: Hahnemann
CAUSE	Anticipation, weather change, cold,damp,draft. Jar. Checked sweat. Alcohol.
MIND	Obstinate, gloomy, sensitive. Anxious starting, fearful guilt/monomania, homesick, irritable, quarrelsome, confused, distracted, Image conscious. Fears failure; no emotions. Mentally acute-physically weak.
HEAD	Vertigo <looking up,closing eyes,lying L.side. Pain then blindness. Open fontanelles. Periodical pain>by urination, warmth,pressure. <noise,exertion,study,light,cold air,straining at stools, talking.After fast, severe illness. Lumps, crusty erupn Open fontanels. Sweat. Paralyzed sensation (R)< coition.
EYES	Swelling lachrymal fistula, stricture. <light Corneal opacity, Styes recurrent. Encysted tumors. Letters run. Cataract< suppressed sweat
EARS	Noises. Caries mastoid. Deafness> blowing nose, coughing; after loud report. Child bores ears
NOSE	Coryza.Infant  epistaxis/ ear affections. Cracks, crusts bleeding. Anosmia.
FACE	Indurated cracks- corners, Pale,waxy. Swelling glands, cancer.
MOUTH	Hair on tongue. Gum abscess, Teeth crumble, long; caries. Unilateral swelling tongue.
STOMACH	Averse to: Mothers milk, cooked or warm food. Desires: Ice creams, ice water. Appetite↑; but↓ on attempting. Cold stone as if. Sour vomit, eructation. Water tastes bad.
ABDOMEN	Liver abscess. Colic with yellow hands, blue nails. Distended, hard with thin legs. Pain rectum→testes < coition. Constipation; Fissure, fistula alternate chest symptoms; constriction. Stools recede. Ascites with diarrhoea<milk.
URINARY	Nocturnal enuresis< worms,head injury. Thick curdy, purulent foul pus. Calculi.
MALE	Hydrocele. Exhaustion<coition. Scrotal elephantiasis.
FEMALE	Abscess,fistula,tumors-mammae/vagina/uterus. Discharge-thin bloody; menses between; pus, offensive. Menses late/suppressed. Weakness→ abortion/sterility. Fetus violent. Nausea< coition.
RESPIRATORY	Cough gagging,shaking, retching<cold drinks, talking,lying,waking. Profuse foul yellow,lumpy, granular sputum. Pneumonia-rattling,stitching; neglected.
NECK & BACK	Osteoporosis. Sore<riding. Weakness<drafts.
EXTREMITIES	Finger tips papery. Sweaty feet- cold,foul, acrid, itching,suppressed.Trembling. Ingrown nails. Felons. Enlarged bursae over joints.Ganglion.
SKIN	Soggy, painful scars. Sensitive ulcers-cold, proud spongy, offensive. Joint abscess. Boils, pustules.
SLEEP	Awakes frightened. Talks,whines,laughs. Sleepy but  cannot sleep. Unrefreshed. Somnambulism
FEVER	Chilly. Painful part cold. Sweat<upper body, night, affected parts.
PECULIAR SYMPTOMS	Monomania. Mentally acute Physically weak. Nausea<coition. Swollen bursa- joints. Worms→ enuresis. Image conscious. Cries when spoken to.
THREAD	Ailments ≤malnutrition,worms.cold air. Tumors, Glands.Foul discharges. Burrowing infections.

CAUSE	Round worms. Abdominal irritation, Anger, yawning. Sun, Full moon
MIND	Restless,tossing, Irritable,angry,touchy, dissatisfied<touch, carrying. >rocking. Desire many things-rejects.Convulsions<scolding. Guilty of wrong doing. Good child=> cross
HEAD	Pain alternates abd.pain; before epilepsy >stooping; Hair loose. <reading, staring, combing .Turns head.
EYES	Pupils dilate. Pulsation,twitching eyelids. Sees through haze>wiping.Colored vision..Squint. Dark around eyes. Weakness<masturbation.
NOSE	Picks, bores-bleeds.Rubs. Alae drawn in.
FACE	Pale sickly<cough.Cyanosis. Alternate cold,pale /red,hot. Chorea.
MOUTH	Grinds teeth,chews,swallows in sleep. Difficult noisy constant swallowing.
STOMACH	More the hunger,more the emaciation. Averse mothers milk.Hunger after vomiting. Craves sweets,bread. Vomit<eating,drinking.
ABDOMEN	Cramping,twisting pain>pressure<worms. Itch anus.
RESPIRATORY	Choking,suffocating, recurrent cough © sneezing, tears, torn sternal pain <slight motion.
EXTREMITIES	Convulsions,twitches, fingers jerk in.<L foot. Paraplegia© hunger. Tosses arms side to side.
SLEEP	Restless, gets on arms,knees, Cries, screams, talks,wakes frightened.
FEVER	Warm hands, pale cold face. Cold sweat face, hands. Hunger before chill, after sweat.
PECULIAR SYMPTOMS	Sourness. Bedwetting<full moon. Menses before puberty. Hungry emaciation <vomiting. Liquids difficult to swallow.
THREAD	Irritation of tissues due to worms. <attention. Capricious until undesirable.
